Neapolitan Mastiff

Basic Characteristics

Height: Male: 26 – 31 inches (66 – 79 cm)
Weight: 150 – 200 lbs (68 – 90 kg)

Coat: Short, dense, and smooth, with loose skin and heavy wrinkles all over the body, especially the face and neck.

Colors: Solid gray (blue), black, mahogany, tawny, and sometimes brindle variations.

Life Span: Average: 7 – 9 years (giant breeds usually live shorter lives).

  • Protective & Fearless: Natural guardian, bred to guard homes and estates.
  • Loyal & Devoted: Deeply bonded to family, especially affectionate with children.
  • Calm & Gentle at Home: Despite their intimidating look, they can be very calm indoors.
  • Suspicious of Strangers: Wary and watchful, they will not hesitate to defend their family if threatened.
  • Independent & Stubborn: Needs a confident and experienced owner for training.
  • Not for First-time Owners: Due to their size, strength, and guarding instincts.
