🐶 Basic Characteristics
Male: 27–29 inches (68–74 cm), 55–65 lbs (25–29 kg)
Female: 25–27 inches (63–69 cm), 45–55 lbs (20–25 kg)
Coat: Long, fine, silky, flowing coat (resembles human hair).
Colors: All colors and combinations accepted → cream, golden, black, blue, brindle, red, silver, domino, or multi-color.
Life Span: Average: 12–14 years.
Temperament
- Independent & Aloof: Often reserved, with a dignified, almost “cat-like” personality.
- Loyal to Family: Bonds deeply with their people but not overly clingy.
- Reserved with Strangers: Can be shy or aloof around unfamiliar people.
- Playful & Silly: Despite elegance, they can be clownish and goofy at home.
- Strong Prey Drive: Bred as hunters → may chase cats, rabbits, or small animals.
- Sensitive & Gentle: Doesn’t respond well to harsh discipline – needs calm, positive training.
Health
- Hip Dysplasia (joint issues).
- Hypothyroidism (low thyroid activity).
- Allergies (skin sensitivity).
- Cataracts & Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) → can cause vision loss.
- Bloat (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus) in deep-chested breeds.
- Sensitivity to Anesthesia (common in sighthounds due to low body fat).

- Regular vet checkups (hips, thyroid, eyes).
- High-quality diet with lean protein.
- Careful with anesthesia if surgery needed.
