Coat: Double coat – dense undercoat with straight, harsh outer coat.

Colors: Red fawn, brindle, sesame, and pure white.

Life Span: Average: 10 – 13 years.

Temperament

  • Loyal & Devoted: Famous for their unwavering loyalty (Hachikō story).
  • Dignified & Courageous: Calm, confident, and not easily intimidated.
  • Protective: Excellent guard dogs, naturally wary of strangers.
  • Independent Thinkers: Intelligent but sometimes stubborn; require firm, consistent training.
  • Quiet & Reserved: Not overly vocal, usually bark only when necessary.
  • Family Bonds: Affectionate and protective toward family members; may be aloof with other pets.

Health

  • Hip Dysplasia (common in large breeds).
