🐕 Basic Characteristics

Height:
Male: 24 – 26 inches (61 – 66 cm).
Female: 22 – 24 inches (56 – 61 cm).
Weight:
Male: 65 – 75 lbs (29 – 34 kg).
Female: 50 – 65 lbs (22 – 29 kg).

Coat: Short, long, or rough coat.

Color: Brindle (golden, silver, or gray variations).

Life Span: 12 – 14 years.

Temperament

Dutch Shepherds are intelligent, loyal, and highly trainable. They are energetic and alert, making excellent working dogs, police dogs, and family companions. They bond strongly with their family and require consistent training and socialization. They are protective but not aggressive without reason.

Health

Dutch Shepherds are generally healthy but may face hip and elbow dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and allergies. Proper diet, regular exercise, and routine veterinary care are essential to keep them in top condition.

Care Tips

  • Exercise: Provide at least 1–2 hours of daily physical activity like running, hiking, or agility training to burn energy.
  • Training & Mental Stimulation: Use positive reinforcement; include obedience, agility, or scent work to challenge their intelligence.
  • Grooming: Brush regularly (especially for long or rough coats) to remove loose hair and prevent matting.
