Health

The Neapolitan Mastiff is a giant and powerful breed, but like many large dogs, it is prone to certain health issues that require careful attention. One of the most common concerns is hip and elbow dysplasia, which can cause pain and mobility problems if not managed properly. Their characteristic loose skin and wrinkles also make them vulnerable to skin infections, so regular cleaning and drying of folds is very important.
Eye problems such as cherry eye, entropion, and ectropion are also fairly common in this breed and may require veterinary treatment or surgery. Being a deep-chested dog, the Neapolitan Mastiff has a risk of bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), a life-threatening condition that needs immediate veterinary care. Heart issues, including dilated cardiomyopathy, can also occur and should be monitored with regular checkups.

Care Tips

  • Regular vet checkups.
  • Keep wrinkles clean and dry.
  • Provide joint supplements and a healthy weight diet.
